Wood Heat

There is just something about wood heat that can not be beat........It seems it warms the soul,

This was a Happy day a few years ago one when we got our new cook stove, we ordered it from Obadiah's .
Its a black beauty with no adornment.But very very functional.
I prefer the simple look.
We tried to buy local but no one carried it.
So it was online through Obadiah's in Montana or Lehman's in Ohio and for us with shipping, it was cheaper to get it from Montana............ and boy do we love her..... She has never quite looked this good...........but she is like fine wine improving with age....

she has to have a good oil bath now and then, I use Crisco to spiffy her up. she now has a few wrinkles but she is a member of our household.
We have had more wood cook stoves than my husbands back would like to remember.
we have had grey ones,
cream color ones,
a beautiful Blue one that everyone went crazy over.
Wood-gas one. Old Kalamazoo white one...............
an Elmira Oval one that came in a close second,
but this one is far far far superior. It takes logs......not just kindle and keeps us toasty all winter. Which right now is well below zero.
We had its mom the Pioneer Maid when we lived at Aleck lake. It was much bigger with a very nice water reservoir and it also had a big warming oven( which I do miss.) ......I really miss it a lot. It stored plates which were warm all the time.Food just right temp
. And a great place to put a sick chick, ......Or mittens........ Or you could dry parsley. Or just about anything.
They are made by the Amish in Canada. It was a top load but I hear they have improved now and have a big one with the front load. I prefer the front load although I have smashed a few fingers throwing in wood. We did not have room in our house for the Maid so we choice the Bakers Choice. One of the best choices we made and 1,000 dollars well spent....
If you have a wood lot , safe chimmy, then an airtight wood stove is the way to go for heat. We have to buy our wood and it has went sky high... It is not as frugal if we had a wood lot and cut our own but we love wood heat....
