Make Hay While the Sun Shines

Monday, August 27, 2007

This is the time of year where there are never enough hours in the day. Apples to dry, (this is a banner apples year). Corn, zucchini, peppers,. Going to dry some Kale and Beet Greens this year.It should add a nice color to the winter soups.
We made our first goat yogurt and it turned out pretty good. I would say better than fair. (smile) but not great. We didn't want to add the powdered milk so it is a tad. runny. More like Kefir. Read where if you drain it that it is pretty good sour cream.

Going to try and parch some corn also today it sounds pretty good now that the first corn is out of the dryer.
We need rain....... like real bad....

Aug 24 Girls night out

Our annual birthday Girls night out.
What a bunch of crazy's.
We had so much fun.
What a wonderful birthday. 62 is great......

We have a few drops of rain this week, but we need so much more.
The leaves are turning way early.
This makes one ponder , we are going to need a ton of snow this winter to make up for this lack of moisture. The fire in Newberry is now 80% contained and that is good news.

Garden is so busy right now.
Cukes, tomatoes, apples are coming on big time.
For some reason up here we have always had a bumper crop of apples every other year.

So this is the time to put up two years worth. Going to try some apple jam.....well maybe apple butter would be a better thing. Dried apples are also awesome and a great snack.

Goat Milk is Awesome......

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Fall is in the Air...........
The girls (goats) have adjusted very nice. We are getting a good two cups of milk a day. Seems to be just the perfect amount. BB tried the hand milk bottle today and determined it is just better to do it by hand.
Filled the food dryer up with the first apples today. We love dried apples. This is an apple year in our area. It seems its every other year for the bumper crop.
Need to make Relish and thinking of trying a good apple jelly. They are saying frost inland for Sat am. We will cover the tomatoes. We planted New Girl this year and love them. Next year we will plant more of them. They are a real firm. Early tomato think that they would make excellent salsa. Not sure we will get enough of them. They don't seem to bear as much fruit as the Early Girls. But a much better tomato in our book. We are so very thankful for the harvest.

Special Prayers : It seems so many people are going through so many trials right now. We are remembering you all in our prayers. You know who you are.....

The will of God will never leave you where the grace of God cannot keep you........
God is so good. He does have everything under control. We just don't know the whys or the ans. but we rest by faith.

Goats came home

Thursday, August 09, 2007

“Be confident of this. He who began a good work in you will continue to perform it until it’s perfectly complete” (Philippians 1:6).

We have been so busy it almost makes one wish for winter. (Well not quite) It is amazing how busy life gets as we approach fall. Canning to do, wood to cover, everything has to get done to look for the long winters rest. This has been a very dry year.
Pickles are ready, Beans to can, Broccoli coming on. Garlic to harvest, Potatoes. blah blah blah blah as the list goes on and on.
Today's venture is making Blackberry Jam... YUM YUM
Oh yes, In the last week we picked up the goats. They have settled in so nice. We have fallen head over heals in love with them. When it gets light out I will try and get some new pictures

How we love Sunday's

Sunday's are such a wonderful time for us. We try to have a day of rest.
No law, just we feel that it makes common sense. It seems the body needs it. The Lord is the one who said working six days and rest on seven day is a pretty good idea and we feel its for a very good reason. Whatever day you chose to rest may you have a restful and blessed one.

FAIR IS ON Blue Ribbons fly tor Baker Boy Aug 3

Friday, August 03, 2007

Well the Alger Fair is on and my honey won two blue ribbons for his baked goods and three reds. He is a First Class Blue winner husband to me. But we are so happy. He baked all day on Thursday. He also entered the milking station he made for our soon to be home goat Tina. (Rebecca's mom) He just did it in his head and it turned out so well. He got a second for it and that was great as he just used scrap wood. He can make and build anything. We should finish the fence this weekend and then go and get the girls. Can not wait. ( Be Anxious for nothing)
A few friends and I went Sailing today that is garage sale. Fooled ya.... Guess what I found for a dollar???

A yogurt maker. It is a Salton yellow one like I had in the 70's. So bring on the Goat's milk.
The nights are much cooler now. Been canning green beans and making pickles.
One lady one year came up from down below the bridge and ask a friend of mine if she was growing dill pickles or sweets pickles. That was pretty funny.
We are so blessed with so many wonderful neighbors. A neighbor up here may live 5 miles away. LOL
There is really even traffic today. Must be the fair.
Grandson is in the court escorting a friend for queen tomorrow so we must go to fair and take pictures tomorrow night.
Where oh where do the years go? They say they go faster the older you get and please do believe me that is true. But we love this time. Take time to slow down and smell the roses. Which by the way are almost gone on my old rose bush. But it makes these huge rose hips.
We need rain .....
Thanks for stopping by and have a great August.
