Winter Trip of 2009 coming to an end...

We have covered over 9,000 miles by the time we get home this week and visited 20 states.  It has been a wonderful trip and we would highly encourage everyone to make a trip like this at least once.  We love our  Rosie Roadtrek  and really made some awesome changes that work well  for us. (and our 65# dog Nyla.)  We are considering renaming her to Rosie Roadtrek the Rainmaker for she loves going in the rain... The weather has been very rare this winter much colder than any other winter and we managed just fine. While it is true I did get homesick a few times but we did make it passed Christmas. :)               Four months today since we left the UP of Michigan. It will be good to see home but now I fear after a week we will  be ready to go again.  Thanks for coming along on our first winter trip and thanks for all the letters and comments.

Check back once in a while........and see.............................

Where in the World is Rosie Roadtrek??????

A Great Army Corp Park in Mississippi

Hernando Mississippi a very cute town with lots of very friendly people. We stayed in a beautiful  Army Corp Park..Hernando Point.

Mississippi people are great.  We have yet to meet anyone who is not   friendly .. from being lost and talking to the stranger on the road or  getting gas, buying groceries  they treat you like they have known you forever.  They are never in a hurry and you would think they would stand and talk to you all day if you stayed put.    We had a beautiful site overlooking the water.

When we pulled out this AM the park was starting to fill up for the weekend.  We  left around 8 am and missed our turn during rush hour traffic in Memphis Tn. so far today we have been in Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois.  We were going back and forth so much it was hard to know which state we were in for a while.  We are staying at a Flying J's tonight.  Going out to eat than tomorrow afternoon we will arrive at the kids in lower Michigan. We will stay for a few days and then head on home to the UP.  It has rained all day today but Rosie loves the rain.  They told us in Mississippi that they needed rain. We told them  Rosie  was here no worries  we could almost  guarantee there would be rain. Guess what???  It rained both nights... :)

We were so happy and believe Rosie brought them rain,

On our Way To Mississippi,,,,,,

We are now on our way to Mississippi...  Going to stay at a Army Corp Park just south of Memphis.                                 We were going to northern Arkansas to Alma and Kenny's .  Kenny cooked us some ribs.  I am so sad we will miss them.  Kenny can really cook.  This couple is amazing.  Alma talks so beautiful with her Tex-mix-German draw.  I could listen to her all day.  We became great friends at Port O'Conner.   LJ wanted to stay south a bit longer. And asthma is kicking in so we decided to pass the North part for now. And head on home.   We will look forward to a visit maybe this summer from them.

Or maybe a trip back  to Arkansas  this summer.                                 We have yet to meet a crabby RV'er. Everyone is so friendly and kind.                                   We are really liking these Corp of Engineer parks.

We like plain old camping rather than the RV parks.  electric and showers are a plus....  guess we are just plain old campers.  Emphases on the old............. :)

Freddy Swaim's Hardware in Paris Texas

On to Paris with a quick stop at the Russell Stover Candy store outlet in Corsica Tx.  LJ bought me a heart box of candy for our Anniversary.  Isn't he the nice?

We drove on up to Swaim's hardware and talked to a real nice man who owns the hardware.  Freddy Swaim.  LJ thinks there may be a connection in Genealogy we met his son and had a great time talking to this very interesting man.  This hardware is like none other. Yes, John they still sell your same stove you brought to the UP.

They say they can put there finger on anything in the store and I believe it.  It is four buildings now and it is amazing. Like none other I have ever seen.  They say if you can't find it here you don't need it.

We went on then to Detroit to see if we could find a good friends old house but with not much luck. (Yes there is a Detroit in Tx.)    We spent the night at a Flying J's truck stop and had an awesome breakfast.  They stay you can stay at Flying j"s and Wal-Mart for free.  But our experience is you may well want to get a campground.  We spent more money than a campground would be.  After a great night sleep we are going on to Mississippi.  (Yes Anna we were not attacked and felt very safe..)                                        IMG_2024

A stop at the Candy store.  For Chocolate...Yum yum

Are there No Fat Cowboys and Cowgirls in Bandera??????

After sitting two hours in a walk in clinic in Bandera Texas LJ and I decided there are not fat Cowboys or cowgirls who live here.  A steady steam of people went by..............not one of them heavy.....  maybe I need to buy a horse.

We were waiting on my cousin last week at the OST to go out to eat.  And in rolls two guys with there Bronco (car) cowboy hats and two six shooters on there belt.  It was just like out of the old westerns.  LJ thought they may be Texas Rangers but we could see no evidence of it.

We are leaving Monday morning.  Can not leave early or it will cost us more money..

Month rates are the cheapest, than weekly next than daily are the very   highest.  If you leave before your time you book you jump up to the next highest level.  We already paid from the monthly to the weekly at the tune of 30 dollars but don't want to leave and owe the daily rate.  I know this does not prob make sense but that's the way it is.

Prednisone does weird things to the mind.  Also does not let one sleep...............so for the next few weeks you may want to skip over this blog.

So all that said we are pulling out of here early Monday and prob no Internet access for a while.
Going to Waco and than to Paris.............To the famous Swaim's Hardware.....

A trip to Doctor March 6th

LJ shares everything..........it is 50-50  the nurse told him.    He gave me his illness
it required a trip and a breathing treatment for me this morning. a shot and three prescriptions a few hundred dollars later. We should be good to go..

We made a trip to Kerrville for meds and did see our first Armadillo ...a dead one along the side of the road.

It was really twister turney roads.  Saw some daffodils out.   Didn't feel like taking any pictures.  except of the dead Amadillo....  I must be a real sickeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  but it might be the only one I ever see...

We are heading home Mon am.  It may take us more than a few days to get there.

The snow is going fast in the UP .....but LJ is hoping to run the snow blower yet this season.

Thoughts from Texas

We are leaving in three weeks from tomorrow and heading North.

LJ wants to go to a Swaim's hardware in Paris Tx and than wants to stop at Graceland .
Than north maybe to Rockville for a quick stop at cousins than on to our kids in lower Mi and Indiana. Than to the UP...............home.  Where I am going to take a shower for an hour..  (smile)

People do think we are crazy traveling in such a small unit. But over all it has worked out great. A few days have been trying but we get over it.. :)  It is hard to get in an argument in such a small area.  But very possible...  :)

We are going up to Kerrville this week and a few more Jam sessions.  There is so much going on here you could be busy all the time.

Lots of Bikes in Bandera our son Sam would love it here.  There must have been a rally this weekend for bikers.

I do love this Texas. Love all the sun. It rained last night what a wonderful sound of rain hitting the roof, and all I could think of was thank you Lord as the flowers need it.
They are saying this should be a spectacular year for the wildflowers after such a drought;
There has been great rains in Texas this year.

Also they say spring is almost here. Yippeee... everyone tells us this is the coldest winter in Texas that they can remember.
 Very unusual.

This has been a fantastic trip and one we will remember for ever.

Please say  prayers  for  good friends Sarah
and Sarah Ruth......fast healing and health..........thank you Lord......
